About the Pattern
The Grandmother’s Flower Garden pattern became especially beloved during the 1920s and 1930s. Small hexagons were pieced into flower-like rosettes, making the design ideal for using precious fabric scraps. The green connecting hexagons in this example are particularly lovely, forming leafy pathways between the colorful blossoms.
Fabrics
The quilt contains a wonderful assortment of vintage cotton prints and solids, including tiny florals, geometric prints, dots, novelty-style designs, and pastel dress fabrics. The palette and print styles strongly suggest fabrics from the 1930s into the early 1940s. The solid pale green backing complements the green garden paths on the front.
Condition
Good antique/vintage condition. A few areas show fabric loss, fraying, open seams, and exposed batting, particularly along the edges and within some flower blocks. These imperfections speak to decades of use and should be considered part of the quilt’s history and character.
