Hand pieced and hand quilted, this charming Star Variation quilt pairs softly faded pink cotton with wonderfully scrappy star forms. Each star is pieced from an eclectic collection of tiny florals, checks, stripes and colorful prints, giving the quilt a wonderfully spontaneous, make-do character.
Circa 1930–1945. The assortment of small-scale printed cottons, checks and colorful scraps is characteristic of Depression-era quiltmaking, when makers frequently combined saved dress fabrics and feedsack-era textiles.
A Star Variation, formed from irregularly pieced scraps surrounding large pink squares. The repeating stars connect across the quilt, creating a bold secondary geometric design.
