A wonderfully soulful Double Wedding Ring mini quilt fashioned from an earlier quilt, preserving worn fragments, hand stitching, and even embroidered names from the original textile. Colorful pieced arcs wind across a soft white ground in faded pinks, blues, greens, reds, and lavender. The visible names—including “Opal Peters” and “Edna Everett”—give the piece an especially personal, almost album-quilt quality.
Historical Period
The fabrics and original handwork appear consistent with the Depression-era 1930s into the 1940s. The Double Wedding Ring became especially popular beginning in the late 1920s and was one of the defining quilt patterns of the 1930s.
