Historical Period
Late Victorian Era, circa 1880–1900

About the Pattern
The Flower Basket was a beloved 19th-century quilt motif, combining geometric piecing with a more decorative floral form. Here, tiny triangles create the woven appearance of each basket while simple pieced flowers rise above them.

Fabric
The quilt appears to contain period cottons including Turkey red, indigo blue prints, shirtings, and small-scale late-19th-century dress prints in lavender, brown, pink, and pale green. The combination of Turkey red and indigo is especially characteristic of 19th-century American quilts. The solid white backing showcases the extensive hand quilting beautifully.

Condition
Good antique condition with expected age-related wear, fading, scattered staining, fabric loss, and deterioration to portions of the red fabric. These imperfections are consistent with its age and history of use.
