# Costal Cottage ARCH Appliqué Quilt Circa 1980-1990
***IMPORTANT: THIS IS AN ARCH QUILT. This is a reproduction quilt from late twentieth-century. This is NOT a unique or one-of-a-kind, however, these can be hard to find, especially in an unused condition.
Circa 1980-1990
Size: 84”x64”
Medium Weight
Pattern: Appliqué Arch Quilt, Hawthorne, NY
Condition: Excellent. No wear and has never been used.
Handwashed and line dried
A charming Hand-appliquéd and quilted late-twentieth-century pictorial appliqué quilt featuring a twelve-block arrangement of folk-art scenes, including ducks, lighthouses, birds in wreaths, evergreen landscapes, and floral sprays. The blocks are framed by blue floral sashing and multiple patchwork borders, including a pieced diamond border and an outer appliqué border of alternating trees and pale squares. Worked in soft shades of cornflower blue, coral pink, aqua, cream, and tan, the quilt has a nostalgic country-house aesthetic inspired by antique American appliqué quilts.
Historical Period
Late 20th century, likely c. 1988–1998
Attributed to Arch Quilts / Arch Associates, New York
About the Quilt
This quilt appears to be an example of an Arch Quilts reproduction, produced during the late twentieth century for the American country-decor market. Arch quilts were designed to capture the look of antique appliqué and album quilts while using modern reproduction-style fabrics and decorative folk-art motifs.
Its layout recalls nineteenth-century album quilts, but the imagery, palette, and overall finish are consistent with 1980s–1990s revival quilting rather than an earlier handmade antique. While not a unique nineteenth-century quilt, examples with elaborate pictorial appliqué—such as ducks, lighthouses, wreaths, and woodland scenes—are harder to find than simpler Arch patterns and are increasingly appreciated for their decorative appeal.
Significance
Arch quilts reflect the late twentieth century’s fascination with early American textiles and the country revival aesthetic. They are important not as antique folk quilts, but as part of a later movement that reinterpreted historic quilt design for modern homes. This example stands out for its detailed appliqué imagery, balanced composition, and especially attractive folk-art coastal and woodland motifs.

*Disclaimer: Please remember that you’re purchasing a quilt that is decades—sometimes well over a century—old. Signs of age are part of their story. I do my best to photograph and describe any condition issues honestly.
You may find:
• Fading or discoloration
• Small stains or age spots
• Light wear, thinning, or fabric repairs
• Minor imperfections consistent with age and use
Each of these are little piece of American history—stitched by hand from cotton, feed sacks, flour sacks, clothing, and treasured scraps by women who made beauty from what they had. Every quilt carries a story, and it’s been an honor to help preserve these heirlooms for the next generation.
